Stefan Pedatella

Dr. Pedatella is Professor of the Humanities at Manhattan School of Music. His research interests lie primarily in the literature of the Romantic era (particularly in Italian and Anglophone traditions) and in Cinema Studies. He is currently working on two book projects: one on Giacomo Leopardi and Animal Philosophy, and another on Mafia in the work of Francis Ford Coppola, Martin Scorsese, and David Chase (creator of The Sopranos).

His awards include Fulbright and Jacob K. Javits fellowships. Publications include the article “Images of Animal Predation in Giacomo Leopardi’s Dialogo della Natura e di un Islandese” (Italian Culture, Vol. 27, No. 1, March, 2009, 24–41), and translations, from the Italian, of two books by Giorgio Agamben: What is an Apparatus? and Other Essays (Stanford University Press, 2009) and Nudities (Stanford University Press, 2010). Other publications include articles on Giuseppe Gioachino Belli and Carlo Porta for The Literary Encyclopedia (http://www.litencyc.com).  Formerly a Lecturer in Barnard College’s Department of English, he was a finalist and received Honorable Mention three years in a row for Barnard’s highest teaching award: the Emily Gregory Award for Excellence in Teaching (2016-17, 2017-18, 2018-19).
